Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth program
The WIOA Youth program improves the quality of the workforce and enhances the productivity and competitiveness of Alaska’s workforce by preparing eligible youth for unsubsidized employment opportunities, placement into post-secondary education and training, and connections to employers for work in priority industries.
Youth program services include activities that lead to the attainment of a secondary school diploma or equivalent, preparation for postsecondary education, occupational skills training, work experience opportunities, work readiness, social skills development, and support services.
Basic Program Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for WIOA Title I Youth program an individual must be:
- A U.S. Citizen or Registered Alien;
- Low Income (only for youth in-school and high school graduates);
- Between the ages of 14 and 24 at the time of enrollment;
- Meet Selective Service Registration requirements; and
- Experiencing one or more of the WIOA Youth defined barriers to employment or education
